Over the past three decades, HEI progressed with its strategy of developing both thermal power and hydropower. As early as 1992, we successfully supplied full sets of hydropower equipment for the Philippine ANGET hydropower plant. Since the end of 1996, our export of hydropower equipment has grown in leaps and bounds, with sets of equipment for eight different hydropower plants being supplied in Iran, Vietnam and Turkey. By the end of 2009, our total installed equipment capacity for foreign hydropower projects, completed and under construction, had reach 4,000MW.

In 1997, working as a BTG supplier, HEI supplied 14 sets of 700MW water-turbine generators for the Three-gorge Hydropower project, the largest hydropower plant in China, representing an historic chapter for the company in the field. At present, the annual hydropower production capacity of HE has reached 6000MW, accounting for 50% of the domestic market.
