Recently, the Nairyah 2 and Rumah 2 projects in Saudi Arabia, both undertaken by Harbin Electric International (HEI), successively completed the major milestone of generator lifting and positioning. At both overseas combined-cycle power plants, the Unit 1 gas turbine generator and Unit 1 steam turbine generator have been set precisely in place. These results were delivered as a tribute to China’s National Day.

The generator is the core equipment through which a combined-cycle plant delivers electricity and is often called the "heart of the power plant." The units are very heavy, and the standards for baseplate levelness and alignment accuracy are exacting. Long-distance transport and lifting operations also involve many risk points. This stage links earlier and later phases of power island construction, and it directly affects the overall construction pace and schedule targets of the project.

Both Nairyah 2 and Rumah 2 are key projects under Saudi Vision 2030. Once completed, they will provide a reliable power supply for local industrialization and smart city development. Working in a remote desert environment, both project teams faced numerous difficulties and challenges in transporting and lifting the generators.
Facing these challenges, HEI coordinated the efforts of both project teams, planned and deployed resources in advance, and worked to clear every bottleneck. On the logistics side, each project team surveyed and rechecked the transport routes on site, and addressed road repairs, passage permits, and the allocation of specialized vehicles item by item. They also scheduled transport windows carefully to avoid the construction risks posed by high temperatures, so that the giant generators would reach the site safely and on time. In the lifting phase, the technical teams refined a dedicated lifting plan based on site conditions and put it through multiple rounds of simulation and review. They rigorously carried out safety and technical briefings for all personnel, jointly inspected cranes, rigging, and other construction equipment, and thoroughly checked the work area for safety hazards. During the lift itself, personnel at every position had clearly defined roles and coordinated closely, while monitoring changes in site conditions in real time. In the end, both projects completed generator positioning successfully on the first attempt, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent installation of auxiliary equipment and equipment commissioning.
Going forward, the Nairyah 2 and Rumah 2 project teams of HEI will treat this milestone as a fresh starting point. They will stay closely aligned with the company’s “13449” strategic framework and hold firmly to the two bottom lines of safety and quality. They will also reinforce accountability for site management across every stage, and coordinate the efforts of all participating parties to advance the remaining construction tasks steadily. Their goal is to ensure that both projects are built to high quality in line with the established milestones and put into operation on schedule, so that HEI continues to contribute to the upgrading of Saudi Arabia's energy and power sector.
